The Alpha course has become one of the most popular ways to explore the meaning of life around the world. Alpha for ESOL provides a slower paced version of the course using simplified English designed for people whose first language is not English.
These changes make the Alpha experience easier and more enjoyable.
What is different about Alpha for ESOL?
The content of an Alpha for ESOL course is exactly the same as the classic Alpha course. However, because of the specialized presentation, there are some key differences between Alpha for ESOL and the standard Alpha course for native-English speakers.
- The talks are presented live with simplified English vocabulary.
- Alpha for ESOL is a 10-week course for intermediate to advanced level English speakers. However, Alpha for ESOL can be customized as a 20-week course for a group of very basic level English speakers.
- The course speakers are trained to present the talks in a low pressure and sensitive manner as well as help create an interesting discussion.
- Each main point presented is followed by a brief discussion time. Sample as follows (10 minute talk, followed by brief discussion time, 10 minute talk followed by brief discussion time etc.)
- Talks are culturally sensitive and use illustrations that are relevant and effective.
Currently we are piloting an Alpha for ESOL package which contains everything you will need to start the Alpha for ESOL course:
