What is Alpha?

Alpha is for everyone,
everywhere.

Alpha is used by churches, ministries, and communities across Canada to create space where people can explore the big questions of life and the Christian faith. Whether you're running it in a church, a home, a campus, or a community space -- Alpha gives you a simple, repeatable format that's easy to pick up and run.
No pressure. No expectations. Just an open conversation.

What Your Alpha Experience looks like

01

Connection

Every session starts with food and drink, a simple way to help people relax and feel at home before anything else happens.

02

Content

A short talk explores one of life's bigger questions through a Christian lens, covering the basics of the faith. It's there to spark a conversation, not deliver conclusions.

03

Conversation

Small groups create space for honest, open discussion -- where everyone is welcome to share, listen, or simply take it all in.
11 weeks long, typically 2 to 2.5 hours each week.
The same simple rhythm every time — a meal, a talk, a conversation. Easy to run, and easy for guests to come back to.

Step 1

Preview the Videos

How? First, create a MyAlpha account (if you haven't already). Course Administrators, Table Hosts, and Alpha Helpers each need their own account.

Step 2

Pray, Pray, Pray!

One of the foundational values of running Alpha is to be reliant on God, and prayer is the greatest expression of that value. Throughout each step of running Alpha, remember to pray.

Step 3

Access All the Resources

After registering an Alpha, you’ll have free access to all the materials. Our easy-to-use online platform ("MyAlpha") helps you organize your sessions, build your team, and manage your schedule with just a few clicks.

step 4

Build Your A-Team (Alpha Team)

We recommend that you have an initial meeting with interested core leaders to decide on the major details: location, full meal or snack, decor, music, retreat format, start date, and overall budget. Then assign specific roles.

step 5

Promote your Alpha & Invite Guests

Alpha Canada provides over 50 templates for you to share digitally or to print (in-house, at a local print shop, or through an online printing service). We have separate promo for your church, for guests, and/or you can create your own promo using the Alpha logo (with branding guidelines).

step 6

Say Yes to Alpha Canada Support!

You're never alone on your Alpha journey. Our team is here to provide free training, coaching calls, digital support, prayer cover, best practices, and we're cheering you along the way!

step 7

You're ready to start Alpha!

You've prayed, your team is trained and prepared, you've invited guests to Alpha, and you've got the resources ready for the first night of Alpha. The rest is up to God!
